General Summary
The incumbent is responsible for following established procedures and guidelines to provide timely and effective support to Operational Shared Services and the Benefits Center Organizations. Performs basic administrative/operational/customer support/computational tasks, typically on routine and patterned assignments.
Responsibilities- Provide administrative support to Operation Shared Services and the Benefits Center Organizations.
- Gather, compile, and verify information and enter it accurately into documents such as reports, correspondence, vendor portals, and databases.
- Code and sort documents for accurate processing or filing.
- Handle customer communication regarding appeals, requests or follow‑up on claim‑related information, and complete related administrative tasks.
- Create digital file copies, enter data, file claim‑related information, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail.
- Contact attending physicians to schedule appointments for peer‑to‑peer discussions, draft and send letters to physician offices, and retrieve claim‑related information to/from external partners for Independent Medical Examinations (IME) and Designated Medical Officer Reviews (DMO).
- Monitor status of activities to ensure established regulatory and workflow timelines are achieved.
- Maintain regular contact with third‑party vendors for follow‑up or additional information.
- Document all activities accurately and efficiently in Unum’s claims system as outlined in existing workflow.
- Adhere to policyholder requirements per Special Handling and perform other duties as assigned.
- Combination of education or experience equivalent to five years disability experience and/or three years administrative experience in support of disability claims.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, etc.).
- Passion for contributing to a continuously improving consumer experience.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously with a high degree of accuracy and quality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact professionally with internal and external representatives and accurately document interactions.
- Customer‑driven problem solving and service delivery orientation; highly motivated team player with proven customer service skills.
