Classification Summary
- The Front Desk & Visitor Services Specialist serves as the primary point of contact and public ambassador for Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors. This role delivers exceptional customer service to residents and visitors, manages incoming communications, provides information regarding municipal parks, trails, and outdoor recreation programs, and updates materials, flyers, and public notices.

- Serve as the first point of contact for visitors entering the Outdoor Chattanooga facility, maintaining a welcoming, professional, and accessible atmosphere.
- Answer incoming telephone inquiries with clarity and professionalism.
- Respond to public inquiries regarding park facilities, greenways, trail systems, tournaments, events, and scheduled community programs.
- Assist in managing public walk-in traffic and engaging them in programming and educational opportunities within the building and through Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors ongoing opportunities.
- Utilize computer software to process administrative requests, input data, maintain spreadsheets, design flyers, and generate basic operational documents.
- Maintain the presentation and inventory of informational displays, brochures, maps, and schedules in the lobby area.
- Assist with routine administrative duties, including scheduling assistance, document filing, and event preparations as assigned.
Specific Duties

- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of customer service, reception, or administrative support experience in a high-volume environment
- Software Proficiency: Demonstrated competence in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Gmail, Calendar) and/or Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to interact professionally with diverse community members, city officials, and staff.
- Administrative Operations: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask effectively while managing frequent public interactions.
- Local Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of Chattanooga's regional parks, open spaces, greenways, waterways, and urban trail systems.
- Outdoor Recreation
Experience:
Personal or professional background in outdoor recreation (e.g., kayaking, paddle boarding, cycling, rock climbing, hiking, or environmental education). - Public Sector Awareness: Familiarity with municipal administrative procedures.
- Positions in this class typically require reaching, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
- Sedentary Work:
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
