We have an opening for (2) Tenure-track Instructors (English) in the Humanities and Fine Arts Division at our Chattanooga campus!

Develop courses, lessons, exercises and examinations in the area of English Composition; remain current within field of assigned instruction, related occupational areas and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college, divisional, professional development and in-service activities; support related professional organizations by attending meetings and serving as officers; participate in annual faculty evaluation process.

• Ensure that services and activities promote accessibility to empower all students to learn.
• Respect rights of students and access to educational opportunities.
• Counsel and advise students regarding academic preparation and career goals.
• Assist in formal and informal placement activities for employment and/or transfer to four‑year institutions.
• Work to retain students.
• Provide out‑of‑class assistance to students.
• Support student activities.

• Provide support in the Humanities and Fine Arts Division that aligns with the College’s values.
• Embrace and promote the College’s goals and support the Humanities and Fine Arts Division’s efforts to utilize best practices related to the student experience.
• Assist in recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned.
• Participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes.
• Support and participate in college/division/department committees, organization and/or task forces to make recommendations in the College’s decision‑making.

• Structure student experiences to ensure fairness, accessibility, and relevance in academic, student life, and co‑curricular activities.
• Teach assigned courses.
• Facilitate the classroom instructional process.
• Evaluate students, monitor progress, and assign final grades in the campus Learning Management System (LMS).
• Maintain attendance and grade records.
• Mentor and orient faculty and staff.
• Maintain required classroom and office hours.
• Select texts, supplemental documents, equipment, supplies, and other learning resources.
• Develop supplemental instructional materials.
• Use current technology in preparation, creation, and delivery of instruction.
• Create and revise courses and/or curricula as needed.
• Maintain updated course syllabi.

The successful applicant will possess evidence of innovative composition instruction, will demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the field of composition and rhetoric, and will provide strong recommendations from his or her appropriate supervisors. Additional teaching and/or research interest in other areas of Literature and the Humanities are a plus.

Master’s degree in English, Rhetoric and/or Composition, or related degree

Preference will be given to candidates with a Master’s or Doctorate in Composition or Rhetoric, a documented record of community college teaching experience, and experience in a variety of delivery formats including hybrid instruction, dual enrollment, and accelerated term schedules.

Instructor: $41,555 - $50,900

Assistant Professor: $46,211 - $57,764
