Position: Associate Instructor - Aesthetics (Evening Program)

We have an opening for an Associate Instructor - Aesthetics (Evening Program) at our TCAT Chattanooga campus!

Job Summary

This is a full‑time, 9‑month faculty position. Responsibilities include instruction, course and curriculum development, professional development, and service to students and the college community.

Responsibilities
  • Instruction:
    Teach the AESTHETICS course at the Chattanooga campus, facilitate classroom instruction, evaluate and monitor student progress, assign grades, provide academic assistance, maintain attendance and grade records, counsel and advise students on career goals, work to retain students, and maintain required classroom and office hours.
  • Course and Curriculum Development:
    Participate in the selection of textbooks, equipment, supplies, and other learning resources; develop supplemental instructional materials; use current technology in preparation, creation and delivery of instruction; create and revise courses and/or curricula as needed; maintain updated course syllabi; develop and maintain a site on the college’s Learning Management System (eLearn) platform where class documents are stored (syllabi, classroom information, quizzes, tests, etc.)

    and available for students to access at any time.
  • Professional Growth:
    Remain current within instructional field and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college and division professional development and in‑service activities; support related professional organizations; participate in the annual faculty evaluation process.
  • Service to Students:
    Comply with FERPA laws; participate in advising, recruitment, admissions, and orientation of potential students; assist students with job placement upon graduation; support student activities including SkillsUSA and NTHS.
  • Service to the College and Community:
    Assist in recruitment; attend convocation and commencement exercises and participate in mandatory college programs; develop and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with colleagues; maintain an active program advisory committee; complete the annual Council on Occupational Education (COE) report for the program; perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Graduate from a postsecondary institution with a diploma in Aesthetics or Cosmetology.
  • Licensure:
    Possess a current Tennessee Aesthetics or Cosmetology license. Possess or be willing to acquire an instructor’s license.
  • Experience:

    Three years’ experience as an aesthetician.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree and full‑time teaching experience.
  • More than 3 years progressive experience in the Aesthetics/Cosmetology field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the Aesthetics industry and Aesthetics license processes; highly effective communication skills; high level of computer skills; willing to work extra hours to support college and community events.
  • Maintains a comprehensive grasp on the area(s) of academic study.
  • Exhibits a commitment to promoting academic excellence in students.
  • Demonstrates a high level of self‑discipline and self‑motivation.
  • Exudes a positive, supportive, and cooperative disposition towards others.
  • Demonstrates punctuality and is detail‑oriented with a demonstrated ability to perform assigned tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences in verbal and written form.
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, equity‑minded principles and practices related to supporting students.
Physical Requirements

Full‑time faculty position, 9‑month employment contract, requires a four‑day workweek and includes a minimum of 37 ½ hours per week. Other conditions of employment are described in the Chattanooga State Employee Handbook.

Salary and Benefits

Salary:
Commensurate with experience and according to salary guidelines of the Tennessee Board of Regents. Salary range: $40,715 – $48,859.

Work Hours

Monday – Thursday (2:00 – 9:30).
