Culinary Arts Teacher - PT

The Culinary Arts teacher is responsible for the hands-on culinary arts program and must be passionate for culinary education, have a commitment to experiential learning, and capable of inspiring students in the area of nutrition, food systems, and culinary creativity.

The ability to disciple and mentor all students

Responsibilities

Develop curriculum and provide excellent instruction

Demonstrate sound classroom management skills

Cultivate a positive learning environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking

Deliver hands-on, project-based instruction that integrates work in a greenhouse setting, gardening, nutrition, sustainable cooking practices, health, and practical life skills

Strengthen students’ understanding of garden and kitchen connections

Foster an understanding of the connection between food, health, and the environment

Maintain the teaching kitchen, oversee the inventory and manage the program budget

Collaborate with the Outdoor Education team to help maintain the garden

Develop partnerships with local farms, food suppliers, and community organizations to enhance the curriculum

Work with SBA’s Outdoor Education team and STEAM team in developing a shared experience

Maintains a professional standard of dress and an engaging personality

Prompt and continuous attendance on campus

Additional Requirements:

Willingness to sponsor extra-curricular activities, trip(s) or classes in order to engage students and build relationships.

Elementary classes will be offered on a rotation basis or as an extra-curricular activity.

Willingness to obtain an ACSI certificate and be willing to pursue certification in a specified timeframe.

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Culinary Arts, Agriculture, Hospitality Management, or related field is required. A Master’s Degree is preferred.
