The Teacher of Behavior Intervention provides small group and/or individual behavior supports and instruction in the Connect & Choice classrooms.
Calvin Donaldson Elementary is a Pre‑K‑5th grade school located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. At Donaldson, we believe that every child deserves a champion! Responsibilities- Coordinate the re‑entry of students returning from discipline and expulsion to increase access to wrap‑around supports and connection to school staff and resources.
- Assist with data collection, progress monitoring, and program evaluation to determine the efficacy of behavior intervention strategies as related to MTSS and to increase safety and reduce racially disproportionate discipline and referrals.
- Develop function‑based behavior plans for students.
- Provide coaching to staff to support the implementation and fidelity of function‑based behavior plans.
- Collaborate with the Social‑Emotional Department to ensure necessary services are provided for students. Attend trainings and collaborative sessions to gain additional skills and acquire best practices.
- Plan and develop course of study according to school district and state curriculum guidelines, tailoring curriculum for multiple levels of academic ability and previous achievement.
- Review a variety of student assessment data to ensure continuous improvement in measurable student performance and achievement.
- Develop and conduct professional development.
- Work in conjunction with the SEL support team to address student, school, and district needs and priorities.
- Prepare assignments and tests for in‑school preparation and homework, monitor, assist, correct, and grade student performances.
- Implement district, state, and federal policies, regulations, and laws.
- Maintain order in the classroom and, in conjunction with administrative staff, administer discipline when necessary to achieve proper behavior.
- Counsel students when academic difficulties or behavioral problems arise. Work with the school counselor to help students achieve academically, emotionally, and socially.
- Consult with other professionals when learning disabilities, drug or alcohol abuse, or social adjustment problems appear, and coordinate with parents regarding specialized intervention.
- Recommend promotion and/or placement of students in appropriate classroom situations for the ensuing year.
- Follow established procedures for ensuring student safety.
- Communicate through the proper channels to keep appropriate personnel informed of impending problems or events of unusual nature.
- Share responsibility for monitoring halls, study periods, lunchroom, bus duty, assemblies, field trips, and other extracurricular activities with other teachers and paraprofessionals.
- Keep records of academic performance, attendance, and social acclimation, and report on all aspects of student development for school records and parents. Conduct parent‑teacher conferences regularly and as needed.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, educational conferences, and other activities that promote growth and student achievement.
- Actively seek opportunities to collaborate with colleagues and other stakeholders to improve teaching and learning.
- Reflect on own instruction and leadership, contributing ideas, expertise, and time to the mission and goals of the school.
- Perform all other duties assigned that support students below grade level.
- Attend training in the appropriate model(s) implemented in the school.
- Keeps accurate records of student work and interventions provided.
- Provide classroom teacher(s) and/or administration with regular progress reports on students.
- Follow established procedures to ensure assigned areas are safe.
- Work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, and staff.
- Arrive to work on time.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Adhere to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. A master’s degree is highly desirable.
- Teaching candidates must hold a valid state of Tennessee Teaching or School Service certification. If you hold a teaching license in another state, you must apply for a Tennessee teaching license.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with students and staff.
Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience. Salary Scale.
