This is a full-time, 12-month faculty position. Responsibilities include instruction, course and curriculum development, professional development, service to students, and service to the college and community. The faculty member will facilitate classroom instruction; evaluate and monitor student progress; assign grades; provide academic support; maintain attendance and grade records; advise students on academic and career goals; support student retention efforts; and maintain required classroom and office hours.
As a Building Construction Technology Instructor, the faculty member will provide competency-based instruction that prepares students for employment in residential and commercial construction occupations. Instruction includes classroom, laboratory, and hands-on training that emphasizes safety, technical knowledge, craftsmanship, professionalism, and workforce readiness.
Essential FunctionsAs a Building Construction Technology Instructor in the TCAT at Chattanooga State, your primary responsibility will be teaching this vital program area. You will facilitate instruction, evaluate students, monitor progress, assign grades, maintain records, counsel students, and support retention.
Develop and maintain a Learning Management System site and maintain curriculum and advisory committee activities.
Instructional areas include Construction Safety, OSHA Standards, Blueprint Reading, Construction Mathematics, Hand and Power Tools, Site Layout, Concrete Construction, Residential and Commercial Framing, Roofing, Exterior and Interior Finishes, Doors and Windows, Drywall, Cabinet Installation, Basic Plumbing, Electrical and HVAC Concepts, Building Codes, Construction Regulations, Construction Equipment Safety, Employability Skills, and NCCER competencies.
Maintain a safe training environment and inventory of tools, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Professional GrowthRemain current within assigned instruction, construction technologies, industry standards, instructional methodologies, and professional practices. Attend professional development and participate in annual faculty evaluation.
Service to StudentsMaintain an up-to-date curriculum, maintain technical skills, acquire new industry skills, and assist graduates with employment opportunities.
Holistic Student SupportSupport students through Admissions and Records, Enrollment Services, Student Services, Recruiting, Orientation, Career Services, Student Support Center, Student Conduct, Student Life, Multicultural and International Services, Adult Student Services, and Disability Services. Position RequirementsHigh School Diploma or GED required. Minimum five years of residential and/or commercial construction experience.
