DescriptionAt Chattanooga College MDTC
, Advisors will help implement our strategy of “Where a small school can make a BIG difference!!”.
This is a professional non-instructional position supporting the academic advising department. This role requires considerable interaction with students through individual meetings, group sessions, and/or events. Academic Advisors are expected to possess extensive knowledge of academic programs, policies, procedures, and student support services. They must be able to interpret individual needs, provide personalized support, and work effectively with individuals who may be confused, stressed, or demanding.
Employees in this role can expect to advise individuals regarding academic plans, progress, and other educational goals, assist with decision-making related to personal educational paths leading to graduation, and help guide individuals toward successful outcomes. This position requires maintaining confidentiality and accurate records to ensure compliance with accreditation standards, institutional policies, and federal regulations (FERPA). The role may also support institutional events such as Orientation and Graduation.

- Strong interpersonal, communication, and public presentation skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in verbal and written formats.
- Knowledge of the advisor’s role in supporting learning, access, and success.
- Ability to use technology to support services, including Microsoft Office, student information systems, and student learning platforms.
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Master’s degree in counseling or a related student development field is preferred.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in counseling, advising, or a related student development field is required
- Experience in community college or higher education is preferred.
- This position requires the Academic Advisor be on campus between 2-4 days per week depending on advising program.
