Position: Nuclear Asset Plan Review Specialist (TVA Public Utilities)

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is a Tier 1 vendor for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and we are recruiting for an experienced, Nuclear Asset Plan Review Specialist, for a 12-month contract assignment supporting TVA’s nuclear fleet. Target

Position Summary

The Reviewer of Nuclear Asset Plans (NAPs) plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of asset planning documents that support TVA’s nuclear fleet in achieving 80–100 years of commercial operation. This position is responsible for evaluating NAPs against industry standards, internal procedures, and technical requirements, providing expert feedback, and facilitating periodic reviews to maintain alignment with evolving operational and regulatory needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • NAP Review and Evaluation:
    • Assess Scope, Function, and Impact: Review the defined scope of components and their high-level functions, ensuring proper grouping and justification. Evaluate the potential operational impacts of component failures, including safety, reliability, and financial consequences.
    • Verify End-of-Life (EOL) Determination: Examine technical inputs such as installation dates, refurbishment history, operating experience, OEM/vendor recommendations, and industry guidance. Confirm that EOL determinations are well-supported and documented.
    • Evaluate Degradation Influence Factors: Identify discrepancies between TVA’s preventive maintenance strategies and industry/vendor recommendations. Recommend adjustments to maintenance or operating parameters to reduce age-related degradation.
    • Assess Uncertainty Factor: Review the confidence level in EOL determinations, considering performance trending, inspection results, and industry/OEM publications. Recommend actions to reduce uncertainty when necessary.
    • Review Asset Management Options: Evaluate lifecycle extension and replacement options for each asset, including associated risks, costs, schedules, and dependencies. Ensure solutions are flexible and support long‑term plant operation.
    • Validate Asset Management Solutions: Confirm that selected solutions are optimal, justified, and aligned with project timelines and operational needs.
  • Periodic Review and Documentation:
    • Conduct Periodic Reviews: Utilize the NAP Periodic Review Checklist to document reviews at least every four years, ensuring NAPs remain current and relevant.
    • Maintain Records: Ensure proper storage and accessibility of NAPs and review checklists, following TVA records management procedures.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Interface with Stakeholders: Collaborate with system/component engineers, asset planning managers, and other technical experts to gather input, address questions, and resolve issues.
    • Provide Feedback: Offer clear, actionable comments and recommendations on draft NAPs within the designated review period.
    • Support Process Improvement: Identify gaps, suggest enhancements to templates, procedures, and review processes, and ensure alignment with industry best practices.
Education / Experience

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in engineering or similar technical field. 5+ years' experience in the field of nuclear plant modification, maintenance, asset management, operations, or quality assurance. Strong understanding of nuclear asset management, preventive maintenance strategies, degradation mechanisms, and industry standards. Ability to critically evaluate technical documentation, identify risks, and recommend improvements. Meticulous in reviewing complex documents, ensuring completeness and accuracy.

Effective written and verbal communication skills for providing feedback and collaborating with cross‑functional teams. Complete reviews within established timelines. Ensure all NAPs meet TVA and industry standards, are technically sound, and support long‑term goals. Actively contribute to the refinement of NAP processes, templates, and review checklists. Collaborates with Project Technical Managers, System Engineers, and other stakeholders. Must be able and willing to travel to plant locations as required.
