The purpose of this classification is to coordinate accounting and budgeting activities, including budget preparation, financial reporting, revenue receipt/recording, and implementation of changes to accounting structure.

Responsibilities
  • Performs fiscal support in collaboration with designated personnel in Central Office, schools, and local agencies; follows internal controls for financial management; trains and assists personnel; reviews budgets and financial records; analyzes accounts; monitors expenditures; assists with required reports and financial documentation.
  • Monitors the receipt, recording, and reporting of all revenue for assigned areas; monitors cash receipts, deposits, and electronic transfer of funds.
  • Ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards, and all other applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; initiates actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
  • Prepares budgets and budget amendments for presentation to Board and County Commissioners for approval; prepares budgets for federal, state, and local grants to provide spending plans for use of grant funds; reviews grant budgets, and sets up and adapts budgets to mainframe accounting system; assists department heads in monitoring departmental expense budgets and grants; provides financial reports/information to department managers and other staff.
  • Prepares state/federal reimbursement requests and financial reports; submits funding requests or reimbursement requests to state, federal, or local agencies.
  • Interacts with outside auditors to answer questions regarding financial transactions and spending. Resolves discrepancies and initiates corrective actions.
  • Communicates through the proper channels to keep supervisor and other appropriate personnel informed of impending problems.
  • Follows established procedures for ensuring assigned areas are safe.
  • Works collaboratively with administration, principals, secretaries, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Attends work and arrives to work on time.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Adheres to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law.
  • Receives, prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, lists, policies, procedures, spreadsheets, or other documents.
  • Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections; utilizes word processing, spreadsheet, database, payroll, financial, Internet, email, or other computer programs; performs basic maintenance of office/computer equipment, such as backing up data or replacing paper, toner, or ribbons; coordinates service/repair activities as needed; provides input for purchase of computer systems.
  • Performs general/clerical tasks, which may include answering telephone calls, sending/receiving faxes, or filing documentation.
  • Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws/regulations; maintains an awareness of new trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Knowledge/Education/

Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or closely related field; supplemented by six (6) years previous experience and/or training that includes public accounting, grant accounting, governmental accounting, financial analysis, accounting information systems, and personal computer operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to evaluate, audit, deduce, and/or assess data using established criteria. Includes exercising discretion in determining actual or probable consequences and in referencing such evaluation to identify and select alternatives.
  • Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may include ability to perform mathematical operations involving basic algebraic principles.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

Compensation: Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience. Grade H. Salary Scale
