Qualifications- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting and five or more years of full‑time professional accounting or auditing work.
- Graduation with a bachelor's degree including thirty‑six quarter hours in accounting and five or more years of full‑time professional accounting or auditing work.
- Graduate coursework in accounting may substitute for experience up to one year, month for month, e.g., 36 graduate quarter hours may substitute for one year of required experience.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with three years of full‑time professional accounting or auditing work.
- A transcript is required for proper evaluation.
Under general supervision, responsible for professional managerial accounting work of considerable difficulty; may supervise personnel and act as assistant director of fiscal services, chief of a major section of accounting, or chief of accounting for a large system. This class differs from the Fiscal Director sub‑series in scope and managerial responsibility.
Responsibilities- Provide leadership and expertise on accounting policies, procedures, and systems for internal and external business partners.
- Perform complex reconciliations of general ledger accounts, research information, and process high‑dollar wire transfers and related transactions.
- Prepare complex financial activity reports, update and maintain project and grant documentation, and process high‑risk, high‑volume transactions.
- Monitor bills and laws to determine financial impact on programs and grants; monitor revenue collections, budget status, and reported expenditures of grant funds.
- Complete risk assessments to determine appropriateness of internal financial controls and assist in developing budget projections, staffing needs, and estimate charges to other agencies.
- Analyze complex general ledger transactions and account documentation; determine appropriate actions for issues identified by subordinates.
- Make recommendations to supervisors on retention, reallocation, termination, and hiring decisions for assigned staff.
- Lead subordinates in preparing financial reports, reconciliations, and processing complex transactions; evaluate motivating needs, performance, and workload.
- Develop strategies for achieving departmental goals; manage long‑term projects and ensure milestone completion; provide training in policies, procedures, and processes.
