Credit Underwriter

Role Description

This full-time, on-site Credit Underwriter role is based in Chattanooga, TN. The Credit Underwriter will review and analyze loan applications, financial statements, credit reports, and collateral to assess creditworthiness and recommend appropriate lending decisions. Daily responsibilities include evaluating risk, ensuring adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements, preparing clear credit memoranda, and collaborating with loan officers and branch staff to structure sound loan requests.

The role also involves ongoing portfolio monitoring to identify emerging risks, maintaining accurate documentation, and communicating credit decisions and rationale to internal stakeholders. The Credit Underwriter will contribute to maintaining Tower Community Bank’s high standards of service, accuracy, and ethical lending practices.

• Strong credit underwriting and general underwriting skills, with experience evaluating commercial and consumer loans.
• Advanced analytical skills, including the ability to interpret financial statements, cash flow, and credit data.
• Effective communication skills to explain credit decisions, collaborate with internal teams, and provide clear written credit analyses.
• Knowledge of loan products, lending regulations, and risk management practices.
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, economics, or a related field; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
• Proficiency with banking systems, financial analysis tools, and common office software.
