Job Summary and Responsibilities
Responsible for simulating, calculating, and delivering radiation to the patient in accordance with the prescribed treatment plan written by the radiation oncologist.
- Documentation of patient treatment, in the patient chart.
- Scheduling sheet.
- Maintenance of patient charging system.
- Positions the patient and the equipment to obtain the best radiation therapy according to prescribed treatment.
- Performs treatment accurately and efficiently, maintaining quality during high volume periods.
- Demonstrates ability to prioritize work load, as evidenced by completing assignments within specified time and by supervisor observation.
- Prepares the treatment room for treatment and as necessary, cleans afterwards according to departmental procedure.
- Identifies equipment malfunctions, discontinues procedure and reports to manager and/or physicist according to departmental procedure.
- Assures that equipment is properly functioning prior to and during patient use, as demonstrated by notifying appropriate personnel of any malfunctions in the equipment.
- Uses and checks radiation equipment according to established procedure in operating manual.
- Handles major equipment with care and according to procedure.
- Maintains and cleans items on a continual basis; before, during and after work day.
- Observes and reports any changes in patient’s condition during treatment.
- Maintains patency of patient lines (chest tubes, catheter, IV solutions).
- Assures patient safety through proper use of restraints/support devices according to departmental procedures.
- Assesses patient comfort during treatment and administers appropriate comfort measures.
Certification of degree from an accredited radiation therapy program, followed by licensure from the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (RTT).
Licensure from the American Registry of radiological Technologists.
