Job Overview

The manager/educator is responsible for the ongoing management of the clinical documentation program and the assigned staff of specialists. The role includes continuous communication with the medical staff to improve the quality and clarity of documentation of patients' condition in the medical record, reducing physician workload through assistance with regulatory guides through clinical review, and supporting documentation of appropriate legitimate diagnoses, MCCs, and CCS.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct medical record coding audits according to assigned time frames and prepare follow‑up reports.
  • Offer educational seminars to Erlanger staff on a monthly basis or more frequently if necessary.
  • Assimilate large quantities of data, analyze it and provide organized reports.
  • Identify problems, resolve them, and review, simplify, and teach complex guidelines and optimization techniques.
  • Create comprehensive educational presentations and present education programs to various audience types.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in scope and type of work assigned.
  • Show self‑motivation, evaluate scope of daily work, and use time‑management skills to accomplish tasks.
  • Maintain licensure/certification by participating in continuing education.
  • Work in a hybrid model with some on‑site obligations within the Chattanooga, TN area.
Qualifications
  • Must have at least one of the following: RHIA, RHIT, RN with BSN, and/or Clinical Coding Specialist (CCS). Must maintain professional certification with continuing education credits.
  • Preferred: CCDS or CDIP, ICD‑10 Certified, CS, Master’s Degree in Business or a health‑related field.
Experience
  • Strong clinical documentation improvement program background including development, implementation, and ongoing management; minimum of five years in health information management and familiarity with reimbursement principles.
  • Computer literate with experience using Microsoft Office, BHIS/SMS/3M systems, and standard coding/reimbursement practices.
  • Expertise in optimizing payment for all financial schemes and comprehensive knowledge of ICD‑9‑CM, ICD‑10‑CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe for audit data management.
  • Exceptional judgment, organizational ability, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Teaching experience required.
  • Preferred:
    Management experience and consulting experience.
Licensure / Certification / Registration
  • Current registration as an RHIT, RHIA, RN, and/or CCS certification.
  • Preferred: ICD‑10 Ambassador – certified as a trainer.
