General Manager Requirements & Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of progressive hotel management experience in General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Operations Manager, or similar property-level leadership roles
• Proven experience overseeing daily operations for multiple hotel departments
• Proficient in hotel P&L management, budgeting, forecasting, and expense control
• Strong communication, organization, leadership, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to recruit, develop, motivate, and retain hotel staff
• Experience maintaining brand standards and preparing for quality assurance inspections
• Comfortable leading in a hands-on, guest-focused environment
• Knowledge of occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, STR reporting, and hotel revenue management

General Manager Preferred Background & Skills

• Previous experience with Hilton-branded hotels strongly preferred
• Knowledge of Spark by Hilton, Hampton by Hilton, Tru by Hilton, Home2 Suites, or similar select-service brands highly desirable
• Familiarity with Hilton PEP and OnQ/PMS platforms
• Experience with hotel sales/CRM, revenue management systems, STR reporting, and reputation management platforms
• Strong Microsoft 365 skills, especially Excel and Outlook
• Understanding of corporate, crew, project, and negotiated-rate account management

General Manager Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Provide visible, hands-on leadership to all hotel departments, ensuring high operational standards and a welcoming guest experience
• Maintain compliance with brand standards, quality assurance requirements, and company procedures
• Monitor guest feedback, address service concerns, and implement corrective actions as needed
• Oversee financial performance, manage labor and expenses, and collaborate on sales and revenue maximization strategies
• Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing team; foster a positive, accountable, and growth-oriented workplace
• Lead property walks, safety inspections, and maintain readiness for brand and ownership reviews
• Engage with local businesses and demand generators to drive occupancy and revenue
