We are seeking an innovative AI Automation Engineer to join our firm's technology team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of transforming legal practice through artificial intelligence, developing and implementing AI solutions that enhance our attorneys' capabilities, improve client service, and streamline legal operations. This role requires technical expertise, strong communication and project management skills to increase efficiency.

The Automation Engineer will partner closely with our IT Manager, attorneys and administrative leadership team to build and improve our existing internal AI platform.

FLSA Status: Exempt

Location: Chambliss is located in Chattanooga, TN. Applicants must be willing to relocate or travel to this location to be considered.

Key Responsibilities 1. AI Solution Automation & Implementation
  • Design and implement AI-powered solutions using commercially available and enterprise-approved models
  • Integrate large language models (LLMs) into firm workflows while ensuring accuracy and reliability
  • Integrate automation solutions with existing software and databases
  • Design, develop, test and deploy automations, and enhance existing automations
  • Evaluate backend systems and potential issues as they arise pertaining to AI implementation
  • Develop RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems using firm knowledge bases and legal databases
2. Legal Technology Integration
  • Collaborate with attorneys and practice groups to identify AI opportunities and pain points
  • Integrate AI solutions with existing legal tech stack
  • Configure integrations using low-code/no-code platforms
  • Work closely with IT and vendors on API-based integrations
  • Create custom tools for contract analysis, due diligence, legal research, and compliance monitoring
3. Data & Security
  • Ensure all AI implementations comply with attorney-client privilege, confidentiality requirements, and data protection regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
  • Implement robust data governance and security protocols for sensitive legal information
  • Monitor and audit AI systems for bias, accuracy, and ethical compliance
  • Maintain data privacy standards in all AI training and deployment activities
4. Innovation & Strategy
  • Stay current with AI advancements and evaluate their applicability to legal practice
  • Conduct pilots and proofs-of-concept for emerging AI technologies
  • Provide technical guidance on AI vendor solutions and procurement decisions
  • Train attorneys and staff on AI tools and best practices
Qualifications Technical Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, Data Science, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in AI workflow automation and process improvement
  • Experience in process automation, scripting, and workflow design, and automation tools. Relevant technologies may include Microsoft Copilot studio, Power Automate, SharePoint, enterprise LLM platforms, document management systems, and legal research tools.
  • Experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, and fine-tuning (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of data security, encryption, and access control
Legal Technology Experience (highly preferred)
  • Understanding of legal workflows and terminology
  • Experience working with legal documents and understanding their structure
  • Familiarity with legal research platforms (Westlaw, Lexis Nexis) is a plus
  • Knowledge of e-discovery processes and document review systems is a plus
Soft Skills
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with attention to legal/ethical considerations
  • Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, administrative teams and IT team
  • Project management skills and ability to handle multiple initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in legal tech, professional services, or regulated industries
  • Knowledge of legal ethics rules and professional responsibility standards
