As part of our EDI Operations & Engineering team, you will help design, automate, and support critical systems that power healthcare data exchange across multiple platforms. This is not a traditional operations role – you will engineer solutions that ensure our applications, data, and integrations remain reliable, scalable, and secure.

As a Software Engineer, you will work across on‑premises environments, Open Shift, and the cloud, helping to modernize our infrastructure while maintaining smooth day‑to‑day operations. This role combines system administration, scripting, healthcare data expertise, and Dev Ops automation – ideal for someone who enjoys building efficient systems and solving complex problems in a fast‑paced healthcare setting.

Job Requirements
  • FHIR and Healthcare Data: solid understanding of the Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) standard and experience working with healthcare data.
  • SQL Server Expertise: advanced skills in SQL Server, including proficiency in stored procedures, query optimization, views, user‑defined functions, and indexing.
  • Scripting

    Skills:

    hands‑on experience with scripting languages such as Power Shell and AIX Korn shell.
  • Ansible Automation: experience with Ansible Automation Platform (AAP), including CI/CD integration, writing playbooks, managing vaults, and configuration management.
  • Cloud and Dev Ops: familiarity with Microsoft Azure, Dev Ops practices, and API technologies including REST, SOAP, and web services.
  • Windows Server 2022: experience working with Windows Server 2022 is required.
  • Java Technologies: good understanding of Java and related technologies.
  • On‑Call Rotation: willingness to participate in an on‑call rotation.
Job Responsibilities
  • Formulate and define system scope and objectives through research and fact‑finding to design, develop, modify, or integrate complex information systems.
  • Devise or modify application systems and procedures to optimize functional requirements including capacity, operating time, response time, and desired results.
  • Design, code, test, debug, and document programs, subroutines, and scripts.
  • May serve one or more project team roles such as project lead, business systems analyst, or technical lead for small to medium efforts or manage phases of medium to large efforts.
  • Maintain technical skill set for software languages, databases, platforms, operating systems, utilities, and networks needed to support work assignments.
  • Respond to system failures and performance events by taking appropriate measures to reduce system downtime and eliminate recurrence of problems.
  • Regularly provide guidance and training to less‑experienced analysts/programmers.
Job Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience required. Equivalent years of experience are determined as one year of technical experience for every year of college requested.
Experience
  • 1 year – Experience with information technology concepts, application development methodology, terminology, and standards required.
  • 3 years – Systems and programming experience required.
  • 1 year – Expert working knowledge of at least one programming language in use at BCBST.
Skills & Certifications
  • Proven skill with information technology in use at BCBST is required.
  • Proven analysis, design, and coding skills, and demonstrated success in leading large and complex projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and translate technical and/or complex concepts into information meaningful to project team members and/or business personnel.
  • Be organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks with exceptional work ethic.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical co‑workers.
