Aerospace Coatings Manufacturing Process Engineer
Shelby, NC
As an Aerospace Coatings Manufacturing Process Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and troubleshooting plant process systems, implementing process strategies, managing process resources, identifying and optimizing critical process variables, and maintaining process documentation. The focus is on continuous improvement of manufacturing unit operations, achieving best‑in‑class safety, quality, productivity, cost, and customer service standards. This is an onsite role at our Shelby, North Carolina site.
Responsibilities- Be actively engaged in Safety; participate in site Safety programs and ensure operational discipline and compliance with company and regulatory safety standards.
- Provide engineering support to improve manufacturing unit operations process flows, process capability, production yields, overall cost of goods sold, equipment reliability, waste minimization, and EH&S improvements through data‑based decision making.
- Provide day‑to‑day support to the manufacturing unit operations teams including observation and analysis of production runs, root cause investigation of off‑standard production runs, and development of sustainable corrective actions.
- Maintain and/or identify ways to improve product quality and adherence to quality standards through continuous process improvement and operating procedure enhancement.
- Identify and drive technical improvements for processes through collaboration with on‑site teams including operations, maintenance, engineering, EH&S, and quality functions.
- Investigate and troubleshoot problems that arise from customer concerns (internal and external) and process deviations of both development and current products.
- Serve as the technical liaison between new product development initiatives and their integration into manufacturing unit operations.
- Conduct new process evaluation/optimization projects, process capability studies, HAZOP studies, process safety reviews, and Process DOEs.
- Provide backup to the applicable operations unit manager and/or production supervisor regarding production reporting, decision‑making, and directing the work of department employees during absences.
- Lead improvement teams, lean‑six sigma events, and production analysis to provide root cause and corrective action to deviations from performance expectations.
- Conform with PPG and SBU Quality and EH&S policies; ensure MOCs, RCCA for EHS CARs and Quality CARs are completed as expected.

- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline, or equivalent.
- 3+ years of process manufacturing engineering experience, preferably in a chemical plant or discrete manufacturing operation.
- Lean manufacturing and/or six sigma experience preferred.
