CNC Operator

This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC machines in a climate-controlled manufacturing environment, interpreting blueprints, and applying G & M code fundamentals to produce high-quality parts. You will work with a variety of CNC equipment, including horizontal and vertical machines and multi-axis systems, while contributing to continuous improvement and growing into a more advanced machinist role.

Responsibilities
  • Set up CNC machines for production, including loading fixtures and parts, and ensuring correct alignment and secure mounting.
  • Interpret and read blueprints to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining processes required for each part.
  • Use G & M code fundamentals to pull programs, verify correctness, and make basic edits as needed to ensure proper machine operation.
  • Locate fixtures using documentation and books, and accurately set up parts into machines based on specified locations and references.
  • Operate CNC lathes, mills, and other CNC equipment, including horizontal, vertical, and boring machines, to machine parts from materials such as grey iron, steel, and carbon steel.
  • Work with 4-axis and 5-axis CNC machines, including Mori Seiki and similar equipment, to produce complex components.
  • Monitor machine operations and make adjustments to feeds, speeds, offsets, and tooling to maintain part quality and dimensional accuracy.
  • Use precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers to inspect parts and verify that they meet blueprint specifications and tolerances.
  • Handle and move materials and components safely using overhead cranes and other material-handling equipment as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized machine shop work area and follow safety procedures and best practices at all times.
  • Collaborate with team members and leadership to troubleshoot issues, improve processes, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities to grow into a more advanced machinist role over time.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience as a CNC operator with the ability to set up CNC machines for production.
  • Ability to interpret and read blueprints, including understanding dimensions, tolerances, and machining symbols.
  • Working knowledge of G & M code fundamentals and the ability to pull programs and run them on CNC machines.
  • Hands-on experience operating CNC lathes and mills in a machine shop environment.
  • Experience with horizontal and vertical CNC machines, including horizontal boring operations.
  • Familiarity with 4-axis and 5-axis CNC machines and their basic operation.
  • Experience working with materials such as grey iron, steel, and carbon steel in machining applications.
  • Proficiency using precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers to inspect parts.
  • Ability to use overhead cranes safely for moving parts and fixtures.
  • Experience with Fanuc and Haas CNC controls or similar control systems.
  • Ability to work with Mori Seiki machines or comparable CNC equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality parts.
  • Willingness and ability to work assigned shifts and additional hours as needed.
