Job SummaryA registered professional nurse employed by Erlanger Medical Center is responsible for the direct and/or indirect care of the surgical patient.
Education- Required – Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
- Preferred – CNOR, Membership in a professional organization
- Required – Minimum of two (2) years of surgical experience
- Preferred – BSN
License/Certification/Registration
- Required – Current licensure to practice in the State of Tennessee; BLS completed prior to assignment and maintained.
- Note – The Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee residents or non‑compact state residents. Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non‑Tennessee residents.

Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for the assessment, documentation, and evaluation of the plan of care for the patient during the perioperative phase of surgery. This individual prioritizes duties and responsibilities, acts as a patient advocate, and works collaboratively with the medical, anesthesia, managerial, and clinical staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The nurse demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient's age, applying principles of growth and development across the lifespan, assessing data, interpreting information to identify age‑specific needs, and delivering care as described in unit policies and procedures.
The nurse contributes to nursing and the Medical Center through support of the philosophy and objectives, and competency is evaluated through direct observation, skills labs, peer review, or self‑assessment.
