Job SummaryA registered professional nurse employed by EMC in the Erlanger COE Elective Orthopaedic Pre‑Op and Recovery Department is responsible for all aspects of direct and/or indirect care of the perioperative phase of the surgical experience.
Education- Required:
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. - Preferred: N/A
- Required:
One (1) year of general nursing experience with knowledge of nursing principles, policies, regulations, current trends, and practices applicable to the perioperative setting. - Preferred:
Previous medical surgical experience or PACU experience.
- Current licensure to practice Nursing in the State of Tennessee.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) completed prior to entering the unit and maintained thereafter.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) to be completed within six months of hire date.
- Completion of 8 hours of Erlanger Online Education specific to Total Ankle, Hip, Knee, and Shoulder Replacement, including 4 hours of online education upon hire.
The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change the procedure for obtaining or renewing a Tennessee license. A Tennessee license is required for Tennessee residents or non‑compact state residents. A multistate license from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non‑Tennessee residents.
Department Position SummaryThe Registered Nurse must demonstrate the knowledge and skills needed to provide age‑specific care appropriate to the patients served in the Pre‑operative and PACU. The individual must be competent in administering pharmacological drugs as ordered, performing procedures, and operating equipment necessary for patient care. They must be able to assess data reflective of the patient's status, interpret relevant information, and identify the perioperative and postoperative plan of care.
Effective communication with staff physicians and other departments regarding all aspects of patient care is essential.
ICU Experience Preferred.
