Description:
The Registered Nurse will work in a dynamic Post Anesthesia Care Unit. The facility has a total of 472 beds. The unit focuses on preoperative care and recovery for patients after surgical procedures. Patient ratios are maintained to ensure quality care. The nursing staff is supported by unit secretaries and techs. Equipment used includes cardiac monitors, ultrasounds, and EKG machines. Documentation is completed through the Meditech system.
Shifts typically consist of 3-12 hour schedules, with the possibility of 4-10 hour shifts. One closing day per week is required; staff will stay until the unit closes. Shifts generally start at 5:30 am, although variations may occur based on the surgical schedule. For closing days, staff will work until the last patient leaves. Overtime pay is available for hours worked after 7:00 pm on closing days.
Floating within the unit is limited to Day Surgery and Preop holding. Candidates should have experience in preparing surgical patients and providing phase 2 recovery care. Advanced skills required include performing nerve blocks, arterial lines, and central lines. Candidates should be aware that there are no weekend or holiday shifts.
