Job Summary:
A registered professional nurse employed by Erlanger Medical Center is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of the patient.
Education:
Required:
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. PALS within 2 years of employment, BLS within 4 weeks of employment.
Experience:
Required:
Knowledge of general nursing principles and practice skills; knowledge of organizational functions, policies and regulations; knowledge of current trends and new developments; knowledge of principles and practices of nursing, applicable to those areas requiring special education.

Required:
Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee, BLS Healthcare Provider De-escalation training.

Position Summary:
The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide comprehensive emergent care appropriate to the age of the patients seen in the Children's Emergency Department. Ability to assess patients and consistently re-evaluate and prioritize based on fluctuation of volume and acuity. Ability to recognize emergent situations and act promptly and appropriately based on the patients needs.
Select, develop, implement and evaluate plan of care. Ability to administer pharmacological drugs as ordered, perform procedures and operate equipment necessary for patient care as assigned. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures.
This is done through evaluation of direct supervisor by direct observation, in a skills lab, or discussed verbally or written. Competency can also be evaluated by a formal peer review process and/or by self assessment based on objective criteria that is reviewed and validated.
