As an Outpatient Veterinary Assistant or Technician
, you will play a key role in supporting scheduled outpatient appointments, specialty procedures, and surgical cases. You’ll work closely with veterinarians, credentialed technicians, and specialty teams to ensure efficient patient flow, exceptional medical care, and clear client communication. This role is ideal for professionals with ER, specialty, or advanced general practice experience who are ready to apply their skills in a structured outpatient setting.
Schedule: Monday–Thursday | 7:00 AM–5:00 PM
Primary Responsibilities- Support veterinarians and credentialed technicians with outpatient, surgical, and specialty cases
- Assist with patient intake, history collection, and outpatient procedures
- Perform diagnostics including:
- Venipuncture and laboratory sample preparation
- Radiographs
- Urinalysis, fecals, cytology, and bloodwork
- Place and maintain intravenous catheters
- Assist with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
- Prepare patients for surgery and post‑operative care
- Administer medications via IV, SQ, IM, and PO routes
- Monitor patient vitals and comfort during procedures
- Provide clear, compassionate client communication and education
- Accurately dispense prescribed medications
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well‑stocked treatment and outpatient areas
- Collaborate effectively with emergency and specialty teams to support continuity of care
- Minimum of 4+ years of hands‑on veterinary clinical experience
, including one or more of the following: emergency & critical care, specialty medicine, surgery and anesthesia support in a high‑volume general practice - Strong technical proficiency in:
- IV catheter placement and venipuncture
- Anesthesia monitoring and post‑operative recovery
- Medication administration and fluid therapy
- Patient restraint and low‑stress handling techniques
- Comfort working in a fast‑paced, high‑acuity medical environment
- Excellent communication and multitasking skills
- High level of professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Certified Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technology education preferred
- Graduation from an AVMA‑accredited Veterinary Technology program preferred
- Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) in Tennessee preferred
