Education and Experience: Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school; qualifying full-time law enforcement, security or related experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Qualifications:

A valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required for employment in some positions.

Under general supervision, is responsible for institutional and related security work of average difficulty; performs related work as required. Entry-level class in the security guard sub-series; may work any shift and perform a full range of institutional and other security activities, such as protection of public buildings. Differentiated from Security Guard 2 by not acting as lead guard on an assigned shift.

• Performs various security activities such as policing facilities, monitoring alarms, monitoring security systems, checking for safety hazards, and violations of laws and rules. Operates security equipment, including two-way radios, communication devices, patrol and other transportation vehicles.
• Controls the entrance and exit of individuals by checking identity, purpose of visit, and authorization. Escorts individuals to ensure their safety as needed.
• Responds to calls and takes appropriate action to assist in emergency situations. Searches for and apprehends missing or unauthorized individuals.
• Advises any security concerns to supervisor. Communicates with law enforcement agencies to exchange information and request assistance.
• Prepares and maintains various reports such as incident reports, vehicle citations, visitor logs, and personal property reports.
