Test Engineer II

General Summary

The Agent Grand Central (AGC) team is seeking a Test Engineer 2 to help deliver high‑quality, business‑critical solutions that support Colonial Life agents and internal partners. This role owns end‑to‑end testing across integrated systems, including modern web applications, workflows, reporting tools, and legacy integrations.

As part of an agile team, you will work closely with engineers, business analysts, and product owners, and regularly engage with business partners to review testing outcomes, discuss risks, and support readiness for release, including presenting results and participating in working sessions.

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent experience
• 4+ years of successful performance in a Test Engineer role or equivalent relevant work experience
• Clearly demonstrates analytical ability and critical‑thinking skills
• Takes a logical, analytical approach to problem solving and pays close attention to detail
• Experience with Agile Development Methodologies
• Self‑motivated and results‑oriented
• Demonstrates strong focus on quality delivery and delighting customers; holds self to high standards of delivery
• Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills
• Strong team player; able to work effectively within a team and with people from a variety of backgrounds and areas across the organization

• Test certifications are preferred (ISTQB certifications, CSM, CSD, CSP)

• Ensures the quality of existing and new features through both manual and automated testing and the use of continuous integration techniques where practical
• Partners closely with Business Analysts to create acceptance criteria for user stories and leverages those to create automated tests
• Produces test scripts, materials, and regression test packs for new and amended software or services, specifying requirements for environment, data, resources, and tools
• Evaluates and plans regression testing for new releases of third‑party/cloud‑based solutions and any Unum‑specific configurations or customizations
• Assists team members and drives test automation through all testing phases (unit, system, integration, and regression)
• Advocates for Quality Assurance best practices across the team throughout the deliverables
• Analyzes and reports test activities and results using industry best practices that align with the company’s reporting and metrics needs
• Creates test strategies, plans, cases, coverage, and execution reports to support the QA effort in testing features that are part of application and/or solution changes
• Maintains traceability records from test cases back to requirements
• Communicates daily with the Scrum Master or Team Lead and the agile team on progress and planned progress for the coming day; reports any impediments
• Participates in sizing and estimation activities within the agile team
• Collaborates with the team—Business Analysts, Designers, Software Engineers, Architects—to ensure features and solutions meet or exceed Product Owner expectations
• Automates testing of software to industry standards
• Creates and maintains appropriate test artifacts for the team (Test Plans, Sprint Plans, etc.)
• May direct the activities of onshore and offshore testing teams, ensuring adherence to the team’s standards
