An advanced-level position that ensures safe and efficient traffic movement and monitors roadways, including detecting, confirming, updating, and responding to scheduled and unscheduled traffic incidents, congestion, and travel time imbalances. The initial contract will be for 30-90 days but is subject to extension upon good performance.
Shift Details- 2 employees needed for an evening shift (C Shift) – Saturday 6:00am-6:30pm
- Sunday 6:00am-6:30pm
- Monday 6:00am-6:30pm
- Advanced-level operator performing functions with minimal supervision and following established procedures.
- Operate various computer-based traffic management systems to manage traffic and incidents on roadways and improve traffic conditions.
- Monitor roadways via surveillance cameras and detection systems.
- Monitor all traffic devices and computer equipment associated with the system.
- Maintain advanced knowledge on the operation of all traffic equipment, computers, and software associated with the traffic systems.
- Utilize traffic equipment for incident management and the improvement of travel time, safety, and quality of life of traveling motorists and toll customers.
- Continuously check the accuracy and validity of the messages displayed on all DMS and 511.
- Be aware of all 511 messages broadcast on a particular system.
- Enter incident information into computer systems using traffic software.
- Become familiar with the roadways and understand the purpose and location of each traffic device (i.e., detector stations, CCTV, and 511).
- Alert operator staff to new and existing memos.
- Use SOG to detect, dispatch, monitor, and document roadway incidents.
- Cooperate with partners (Highway Patrol, Service Patrols, Local Law Enforcement, Fire Rescue, etc.) and adjacent Traffic Management Centers or other DOT Regions to coordinate resources for incidents that may affect regional travel.
- Dispatch Service Patrols and assist them with other tasks, such as phone calls.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Dispatch or call center experience is a plus.

Qualifications- Microsoft Access – Experience a plus (Novice 1-3 years)
- Customer Service – Experience a plus (Novice 1-3 years)
- Data Entry – Experience a plus (Novice 1-3 years)
- Emailing – Novice 1-3 years
- Microsoft Excel – Novice 1-3 years
- Microsoft Word – Novice 1-3 years
- Multi-Line Phone System – Experience a plus (Novice 1-3 years)
- Printing and Copying – Novice 1-3 years
- Technical Skills – 2 years of experience as TMC Technician or direct comparable experience
- Typing – Experience a plus (Novice 1-3 years)
- Verbal Communication – Good communication skills, oral, writing, clear communication over radio; dispatch experience
