Summary of JobThe Operations Supervisor reports to the Director of Transportation and is responsible for overseeing and coordinating fixed route and shuttle operations to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient transit service. This role combines on-road supervision and control center dispatching responsibilities, including monitoring service, supporting drivers, responding to incidents, and maintaining effective communication across departments. The Operations Supervisor must exercise sound judgment under pressure, enforce company policies and safety regulations, and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local transit requirements.
EssentialJob Functions
- Monitorandcoordinatedailytransitoperationsusing Computer-Aided Dispatch(CAD) systems.
- Trackvehiclesinreal-timetoensureon-timeperformanceandefficientroutecoverage.
- Communicate effectively with drivers,supervisors,andlawenforcementasneeded.
- Adjustschedulesandroutesasnecessarytoaddressservicedisruptions.
- Conducton-roadobservationstoevaluatedriverperformance,safety compliance,and customer service for all CARTA transit services.
- Providecoachingandfeedbacktooperators,addressingperformanceconcernsasneeded.
- Assistdriversinresolvingoperationalissuessuchasschedulingconflicts,passenger concerns, or route adherence.
- Supportnewdrivertrainingandongoingsafety/service education.
- Respondtoaccidents,breakdowns,and emergencies,coordinatingwithemergency personnel when necessary.
- Performinvestigationsintoincidentsorcustomercomplaintsandrecommendcorrectiveactions.
- Conductreasonablesuspicionassessmentsforsubstanceabuseincompliancewithpolicy.
Ensurecompliancewithsafetyregulations,includingpre-tripandpost-trip inspections.
- Maintainaccuraterecordsofdriverperformance,incidents,dispatchlogs,andservicereports.
- InterpretandenforceCARTAworkrules,policies,and procedures.
- Reportoperationalandmaintenanceissuestoappropriatedepartments.
- Ensurecompliancewithfederal,state,andlocaltransportationregulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- This position will oversee other positions
- Recognize and follow ADA rules and regulations related to passenger transit services.
- Responsible for completing all mandatory training classes.
- Responsible for reviewing and complying with all CARTA policies, procedures and directives.
- High School Diplomaor GED required.
- Mustpossessa Commercial Driver License (CDL),Class Bwithpassengerendorsement. Additional training or certifications in transportation management, safety, or operations preferred.
- Aminimumoffiveyears’experienceasatransitoperatorand/orsupervisoryrolewithin public transportation required.
- FamiliaritywithCARTAroutes,schedules, andoperationalprocedurespreferred.
- Strongleadershipandproblem-solving abilities.
- Excellentcommunicationandinterpersonalskills.
- Abilitytoremaincalmandmakeeffectivedecisionsinhigh-pressureoremergencysituations.
- ProficiencyinCADsystems,radio communications,andbasiccomputerapplications.
- Professionalismandcomposurewhenhandlingstressfulorsensitivesituations.
- Standing for prolonged periods.
- Sitting for prolonged periods.
- Perform repetitive motion.
