This posting is for the Library Media Ed Para Specialist position at W.F. West High School. The position is 186 days per year, including 5 days before the start of the school year and 1 day after the school year ends. This position is 7.0 hours per day, approximately 7:10 am to 2:40 pm. This position is open until filled.

The Library/Media Specialist oversees the library media center, assists staff and students on the proper use of library resources, and manage technological resources available for use in the media center. This position creates a welcoming environment that encourages student engagement and enjoyment of books.
EXAMPLES of DUTIES:
Essential Job Functions:
- Check-In and Check-Out books and classroom materials
- Maintain inventory on all library materials, catalog records and library user records
- Monitor library budget, implements correct purchasing procedures and oversees expenditures
- Use the Follett Destiny circulation system for maintaining, searching, and expanding library collection
- Assist Principal(s) with requisitions of new media center materials
- Assist teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials, and makes media center materials available to supplement the instructional program
- Create displays to increase student engagement
- Ability to do a wide range of repairs on books (broken spines, loose or ripped pages, damaged covers, etc)
- Perform regular library collection management and submit surplus items to school board for approval
- Help students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments
- Prepare written materials and compose documents (e.g., brochures, newsletters, correspondence, agendas, minutes, and reports) to communicate school and district activities, procedures, and information to personnel and the community
- Respond to inquiries of staff, the public, parents and/or students for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required
- Assists with assessment scheduling, test administration logistics, student organization, and communication with staff to ensure a smooth and secure testing coordination process.
- Ensure that students have proper skyward information in library system
- Support principal and/or other school administrative personnel for the purpose of providing assistance with their administrative functions
- Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
- Supervise student workers for the purpose of ensuring appropriate class credit and/or learning experience
- Supervise students in library during lunch and class time as needed
- Assist the building principal and other staff in carrying out responses to emergencies or critical situations
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Troubleshoot Chromebook issues for students
- Assist teacher and/or substitutes with technology needs
- Assign chrome books to new students (including incoming freshman)
- Maintain accurate chromebook and charger inventory records for student day use
- Submit work tickets to the technology department and issue fines as needed
- Track withdrawn students to ensure all devices are returned or fines submitted
- Experience in clerical, bookkeeping, or administrative support roles.
- Demonstrated customer service and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage multiple priorities.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent. In addition, must meet one of the following:
