Purpose StatementThe job of Director - Summit Academy is done for the purpose/s of assisting the Program Director – Summit Academy in the administration and instructional leadership of the program provided in the Summit Academy, encompassing management and leadership functions required to ensure a successful educational program which serves students whose educational needs are primarily the result of significant social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.
EssentialFunctions
- Program Development and Implementation Assists with the development and implementation of program philosophy, mission, and goals for the purpose of effective operations of program.
- Needs Assessment and Data Analysis Conducts ongoing needs assessments and collects and analyzes data to refine and improve operational functions and services for the purpose of continuing improvement and planning.
- Therapeutic Intervention Planning Coordinates and consults with sending school staff and parents in the development of therapeutic behavior intervention plans for students for the purpose of maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal policies.
- Partnership Development Develops and maintains productive relationships and partnerships with community agencies, school districts, families, and local, state, and federal government entities for the purpose of ensuring continuity of program philosophy, mission, and goals.
- Organizational Management Guidelines Establishes building/program guidelines and procedures for effective organizational management to include planning and leading designated meetings, staff professional development, and coaching for the purpose of assisting with effective operations of the program.
- Student Activities and Discipline Guidelines Establishes building/program guidelines and procedures for student activities and discipline for the purpose of assisting with effective operations of the program.
- Safety Procedures Establishes guidelines and procedures to ensure the safety of personnel and programs for the purpose of assisting with effective and safe operations of the program.
- Staff Management Facilitates the selection, supervision, and evaluation of all staff for the purpose of assisting with effective operations of the program.
- Behavioral Intervention Plan Oversight Oversees the development and implementation of specially designed behavioral intervention plans integrating Applied Behavior Analysis methodologies and comprehensive behavior support plans for the purpose of assisting with maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal policies.
- Crisis Prevention and Intervention Utilizes appropriate crisis prevention and intervention strategies to ensure effective de‑escalation strategies in compliance with Washington State WACs and Emergency Response Protocols in situations where students pose an imminent threat to self or others for the purpose of ensuring safety and maintaining a secure learning environment.
- Personnel Assistance Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
- Related Duties Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

- Knowledge Required Knowledge is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:
Understanding the needs of a diverse population of students (including, but not limited to students with autism, emotional and behavior disorders, mental health needs, etc.); age appropriate activities; concepts of grammar and punctuation; school restructuring processes; performance-based assessments and scoring rubrics; and pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws. - Skills Required Skills are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
