Description:
To develop in each pupil the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing that are fundamental to good communication and literate citizenship; to discover and develop special talents of pupils in the designated career field(s); to prepare students for participation in post-secondary school career and technical programs or direct job placements in the designated career area(s).

To provide classroom, laboratory, shop, and/or field-based instruction in the designated career and technical area(s), with primary responsibility for Agriculture Science (AFNR) pathway courses. Welding, fabrication, agricultural mechanics, and related shop-based instruction may be included as part of the assigned Agriculture pathway program.

This position includes a supplemental contract to serve as one of the Chehalis FFA chapter advisors; supporting student leadership, competition, and supervised agricultural experience opportunities connected to the Agriculture Science program.

Example Courses Assigned

This position may include responsibility for Agriculture Science pathway courses such as:

• Biology A and B, CTE: Students participate in hands-on life science labs, research assignments, and group projects focused on organisms, ecosystems, matter cycles, and energy flow through an Agriculture Science pathway approach, while utilizing Washington State Next Generation Science Standards.
• Animal Biology A and B: Students study animal behavior, large animal production, nutrition, health management, disease prevention, livestock selection, and public policy related to animal agriculture through hands-on and live-animal learning experiences.
• Veterinary Science/Vet Tech: Students explore animal health, veterinary practices, animal handling, anatomy and physiology, disease prevention, clinical skills, and career opportunities in veterinary and animal care fields.
• Welding, Fabrication, and Metal Art: Students learn shop safety, welding setup and shutdown procedures, plasma cutting, oxy-acetylene cutting and welding, SMAW, GMAW, TIG welding, fabrication, computer-aided drafting, CNC plasma cutting, and project-based metal art design.

• Assume responsibility for implementing and teaching a career and technical education course(s) in the designated career and technical education area.
• Center instruction on high expectations for student achievement and career readiness.
• Provide clear and intentional focus on subject matter content and curriculum.
• Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs.
• Assume responsibility for implementing and teaching a specialized program in the subject area.
• Teach courses in subject area to secondary students utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Directors and appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content.
• Supervise shop, lab, classroom, and field-based instructional areas cooperatively with other staff members.
• Participate in advisory committee activities as directed by school administration and required by state and national CTE guidelines.
• Work in a team environment with Agriculture, Trade and Industry, Science, and Career and Technical Education faculty.
• Implement Washington Career and Technical Education standards.
• Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
• Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
• Use multiple student data elements to modify instruction and improve student learning.
• Plan a program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions, student experiments, laboratory activities, shop-based learning, supervised agricultural experiences, and project-based instruction; organize laboratory and shop activities for optimal learning.
• Demonstrate effective teaching practices.
• Establish rapport, communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community.
• Develop lesson plans and appropriate instructional aids stressing discovery, laboratory learning, shop safety, project-based learning, and career-connected instructional methods.
• Demonstrate subject area concepts using models, visual aids, technological hardware and software, industry tools and equipment, and other standard or teacher-prepared instructional aids.
