Position Overview
The Temporary Educational Para Specialist‑Nurse will support the general student population at W.
F. West High School for the 2026‑27 school year. The role will be an LPN position, with RN candidates also considered, and will involve 7.0 hours per day from 7:25 am to 2:25 pm.
- Lift and support students as needed.
- Collaborate with staff members, parents/guardians, and external professionals.
- Assist with toileting, communication, motor, and self‑help programs.
- Implement programs designed to increase students' skills.
- Confer with therapists, teachers, parents, and other personnel to provide requested information.
- Attend meetings such as IEP conferences, parent meetings, and in‑services to discuss students’ functional goals.
- Prepare documentation (e.g., evaluations, IEPs, progress notes) to support recommendations and convey information.
- Research resources and methods (intervention techniques, assessment tools, community resources) to assist in determining appropriate approaches.
- Assist with screening students to determine the need for further individualized assessment.
- Administer first aid in emergencies.
- Assist other personnel as required to support their work activities.
- Confer with teachers and community agency personnel to evaluate students’ progress and implement objectives.
- Participate in meetings to share information and improve skills/knowledge.
- Perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Complete work at assigned workstations and communicate politely and civilly with all.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Associate of Arts degree in Nursing required; LPN or RN licensure necessary.
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Prior job‑related experience (paid or volunteer) with school‑age children.
- Experience and/or training with special‑needs students preferred.
- Experience and/or training in sociology, psychology, or behavior management preferred.
- Skills – Apply assessment techniques and treatment modalities under direct supervision; communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents; perform basic computer functions; use English in written and verbal form with correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling; provide hygienic special health care for students.
- Knowledge – Principles of child development; assessment techniques and treatment modalities; district policies; child development patterns.
- Abilities – Understand and address special‑needs students; follow oral and written instructions; maintain confidentiality of student records; meet schedules and deadlines; read, interpret, and apply rules and regulations; rapidly learn methods and materials in various situations; possess significant physical abilities including lifting or carrying 25 lbs or more.
This is a temporary position not subject to the Teamsters Bargaining Unit Agreement. It includes pro‑rated health benefits and sick leave; it does not include paid holidays or personal days. The position ends on the last student day of the 2026‑27 school year or earlier if program needs change.
Compensation and BenefitsTemporary employees receive compensation per the Teamsters Local 252 Bargaining Agreement, Article 1.2.5 (Temporary Employee). Benefits include health benefits as described, and sick leave. No paid holidays or personal days are provided. Salary is based on experience and the Teamsters salary schedule.
