This posting is for a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) providing leave replacement coverage in the beginning of the 2026-27 school year only for Grades K-2. This position is anticipated to start September 1, 2026 and end December 18, 2026. Salary is based upon the attached CEA Salary Schedule and will be prorated based upon start date and actual FTE.

The job of the Elementary Teacher is to create a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, values, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for upper grade education, in accordance with each students' ability; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Center instruction on high expectations for student achievement.
- Provide clear and intentional focus on subject matter content and curriculum.
- Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs.
- Provide learning experiences in reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and other assigned district curriculum to students in a classroom, utilizing course of study adopted by the school district, and other district approved learning activities.
- Adapt lessons for the purpose of implementing the IEP goals and meeting the special needs of students.
- Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional material and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each students.
- Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep accurate and appropriate classroom and district records, and prepare progress reports.
- Establish rapport, communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community.
- Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student's progress and interpret the school program.
- Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Demonstrate effective teaching practices.
- Use multiple student data elements to modify instruction and improve student learning.
- Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
- Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment.
- Exhibit collaborative and collegial practices focused on improving instructional practice and student learning.
- Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
- Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Complete work at assigned workstation(s).
- Consistently deals with people in a courteous and professional manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with an Elementary Education Endorsement
- Endorsement in Early Childhood Education preferred
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background clearance
- Skills to motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance
- Demonstrated successful experience in implementing a prescribed curriculum
- Demonstrated evidence of classroom management skills
- Experience and/or training with cultural, ethnic and language diversity preferred
- Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education code
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to work cooperatively with administration and staff
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use computer technology to assist instruction
- Prior job related experience required
