Chehalis School District is seeking a dynamic and student-centered CTE educator to teach Freshman Seminar at W.F. West High School (0.4 FTE). This course is designed to equip incoming ninth-grade students with academic, social-emotional, and career-readiness skills necessary for success in high school and beyond. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with transitioning students and skilled at building positive relationships while delivering structured, relevant content.
Duties- Deliver instruction aligned to the Freshman Seminar course framework, including postsecondary planning, financial literacy, organizational strategies, and social-emotional learning
- Foster a classroom culture rooted in responsibility, effort, and accountability
- Guide students in exploring course offerings and career pathways that align with their skills, talents and purpose
- Support students in developing intrapersonal skills and self-advocacy
- Collaborate with counselors, administrators, and fellow staff to support student transitions to high school
- Maintain accurate records, communicate with families, and participate in relevant professional development
- Contribute to a positive school culture
- Valid Washington State Certificate or Washington State Career and Technical Education Certificate
- First Aid/CPR Right Response Trained
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background clearance
- Skills to motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance
- Demonstrated successful experience in implementing a prescribed curriculum
- Demonstrated evidence of classroom management skills
- Experience and/or training with cultural, ethnic and language diversity preferred
- Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education code
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to work cooperatively with administration and staff
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use computer technology to assist instruction
- Prior job related experience required
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
- Knowledge of age appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum, benchmarks and framework, education code, appropriate instructional subjects
- Willingness to supervise/direct extracurricular activities
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to work cooperatively with administration and staff
- Skills to promote learning, motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, and evaluate performance
- Knowledge of curriculum, education code, and district policies
- Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, other school personnel, meet schedule and deadlines. Significant physical abilities may include lifting/carrying 25 lbs, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/field of vision
