Responsibilities
Perform a variety of technical engineering work including preparation and review of construction plans, traffic engineering, and minor construction inspection activities; provide assistance to professional‑level engineering staff.
Essential Functions- Inspect asphalt pavement for type and quantity of defects.
- Research and calculate dimensions of asphalt types accepted by the City.
- Enter and retrieve data from a computerized database.
- Assist in field inspections and evaluation of assessment districts.
- Respond to citizen questions and complaints by telephone, at the service counter, or in writing.
- Basic civil engineering principles and practices.
- Construction inspection methods and techniques.
- Materials, methods, techniques, and theories of modern construction.
- Mathematical principles applied to civil engineering work.
- Ability to learn pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and ordinances.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.
- May include lifting up to 40 pounds.
- Walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces, including traffic areas.
- Standing one hour or more while observing, collecting, and communicating with the public and coworkers.
- Outdoor performance in various weather conditions.
- Visual acuity for reading engineering plans and specifications.
- Audio acuity sufficient to hear on‑coming traffic and motorized equipment.
One year of technical engineering experience.
Training- Completion of twelfth grade plus college‑level coursework in engineering or drafting (e.g., mathematics or computer science).
- OR two completed semesters of university/college or junior college coursework in a science or engineering curriculum may substitute for work experience.
Valid driver’s license issued by the State of Nevada.
