Anticipated Opening – Summer Fest Art Instructor

This is a seasonal, non‑benefited position running July 6 – August 14. The weekly hours will vary based on program needs. Program hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; morning and afternoon shifts will be required.

Job Description

We are looking for a part‑time Art Instructor to lead the full‑day summer program. The goal is to provide an enriching, exciting, and fun summer experience for children enrolled in the Chelmsford Community Education Summer Programs.

Candidates must meet with the Summerfest Supervisor before summer to develop a basic, fun and educational, theme‑based plan focused on their area of activities. During summer they must implement plans and adapt activities based on children’s age, abilities, and interest level. They must also keep supervisors informed of damaged or needed equipment, help oversee Supportive Staff in their area, provide positive reinforcement, maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor, and perform other duties as assigned.

Candidates should thrive in a fast‑paced environment and have a flexible mindset for sudden changes such as rainy days or visitors.

Art Instructor Responsibilities
  • Enthusiastic, creative, and willing to implement a diverse, imaginative, open‑ended art curriculum for all ages and ability levels.
  • Knowledge and comfort with a variety of art activities: watercolor, oil pastels, paper mache, sculpting, etc.
  • Organize arts and craft areas, distribute appropriate activities, and create an efficient system for receiving and returning projects.
  • Encourage and inspire children to participate in arts and craft programs; provide a space for free‑time art during breaks.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor.
  • Oversee and facilitate inventory and ordering of all supplies.
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.
Expectations & Work Schedule

Flexibility to work morning or afternoon shifts. Willingness to work at least 4 part‑time weeks out of the 6 weeks of operation. Additional hours may be available for planning, setup, and breakdown.

A minimum of 4 hours of pre‑planning is expected before Summerfest opens.

Compensation

Hourly rate: $22.00 per hour.

Qualifications
  • Early childhood or elementary education experience.
  • Art/Art instruction experience.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa as required by law.
