Position Title:

School Social Worker at Parker Middle School (Grades 5/6), Chelmsford Public Schools.

Location:

Parker Middle School – Chelmsford, Massachusetts.

Employment type:

Full‑time. Starting date:
Aug 25 2026. Salary: $61,142 to $114,820 Per Year.

Job Description

The Social Worker provides ongoing support and intervention to students grades 5 / 6 through a multi‑tiered system of support model to strengthen student wellbeing and school success. The candidate collaborates within the Parker School community to respond to student mental health and support academic growth, serves as an active member of the counseling team, and participates in the STRIVE Social‑Emotional classroom to promote SEL and behavioral health wellness.

Responsibilities
  • Work with 5th and 6th‑grade students, demonstrating experience and passion for this age group.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including educators, specialists, administrators, families, and community partners.
  • Provide individual and group counseling with measurable goals and progress monitoring.
  • Maintain a caseload of assigned students to support behavioral health wellness and academic success.
  • Offer SEL instruction and direct counseling support to students supported by the STRIVE classroom.
  • Initiate and participate in all school meetings related to student progress.
  • Facilitate meetings and maintain ongoing communication with families and outside community partners.
  • Assess student safety through risk assessments and provide crisis intervention and triage support.
  • Frequently assess student mental health needs, implement responsive plans, and measure student growth.
  • Participate as a member of the Parker School Student Support Team (SST).
  • Appropriately assess and report for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter.
  • Support school‑wide SEL/MTSS initiatives to promote a positive school climate and sense of belonging for all students.
  • Build and maintain relationships with parents/families of served students, including phone calls, meetings, emails, and home visits when needed.
  • Work in a collaborative approach with administration, educators, student services team, families, and community partners.
  • Provide referrals for outside services and connect families to community resources.
  • Participate as a member of the Special Education team and provide counseling services to students on IEPs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school administrators.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Counseling and/or Social Work (preferred).
  • DESE licensure as a School Counselor or School Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor and/or professional licensure in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling, and eligibility for DESE licensure.
  • Strong commitment to equity, high standards for all students and families, and inclusion of diverse backgrounds.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
