School Counselor Location Chelmsford Public Schools. Reports to the Coordinator of Social Emotional Learning & School Counseling and Principal
General Description:
The Chelmsford Public Schools is seeking a skilled and dynamic School Counselor for the South Row Elementary School serving students in grades K-4. The School Counselor will provide tiered school-wide student support through individual and small group counseling, PBIS, and facilitation of social-emotional learning and social skills curriculum. The School Counselor will use a team approach and will work collaboratively to form partnerships with school staff, families and caregivers, and the local community in support of student success and well-being.
This counselor will also work collaboratively with district counselors to enhance mental health supports and counseling services district-wide. School counselors adhere to, address, and practice all of the skills and competencies detailed by the MA Model for School Counseling and the American School Counselor Association National Model. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* School counseling practices adhered to ASCA Ethical Standards
* Be an advocate for all students
* Consult with teachers, staff, and parents regarding the developmental and Social Emotional needs of students.
* Counsel individuals and small groups of students experiencing social, emotional, and/or behavioral problems
* Apply counseling theories and techniques to support students in crisis
* Collaborate with community partners and connect students and families to supports
* Appropriately assess and report for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter
* Team member for Student Study Team (SST) and Child Protection Team (CPT)
* Lead or co-lead group counseling for identified students
* Attend and participate in Section 504 Accommodation Plan and IEP meetings
* Facilitate and/or attend parent/teacher/counselor meetings as needed on an ongoing basis
* Work collaboratively as part of a team to support students and SEL in the school
* Prioritize partnerships with families and caregivers in support of student well-being and academic success
* Provide Tier I & II SEL Lessons both in the classroom and small group settings aligned with school counseling curriculum
* Promote a sense of belonging for all students and contribute to a positive school culture
* Maintains confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues
* Other responsibilities/duties as assigned by the school administration .
