Extended Day Counselor

Chelmsford Public Schools – Chelmsford Community Education Center – Chelmsford, Massachusetts

Job Description

The Chelmsford Public Schools is inviting applications for an Extended Day Counselor (Extended Day – Exempt) position. The role coordinates Community Education Programs to provide an enriching, exciting, and fun after‑school experience for children, ensuring all participants have a memorable time during all activities.

Job Responsibilities
  • Attend mandatory training before the extended day starts.
  • Assist with student record preparation and maintenance, including sign‑in and sign‑out.
  • Support the supervisor in implementing the daily program plan.
  • Plan and facilitate activities to enhance student experience.
  • Develop and execute activities for small groups.
  • Adapt behavior management expectations to meet students’ individualized needs.
  • Assist with plans for children with behavioral or physical challenges.
  • Collaborate with teachers, team leaders, and other personnel regarding students.
  • Supervise and interact with students.
  • Communicate with parents about positive highlights and concerns.
  • Perform related duties as directed or necessary.
  • Work on the floor, lift over 50 lb, and meet other physical requirements as needed.
  • Adhere to all guidelines set forth by the school.
Job Qualifications
  • High school diploma; two years of college preferred.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for assigned responsibilities.
  • Experience with age‑appropriate students in a school setting.
  • Completed CORI and fingerprinting, accepted by the district.
  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
