We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and hands‑on educator to lead our Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Gateway program for 7th and 8th‑grade students. This role is central to our mission of fostering critical thinking and problem‑solving through STEM. You will be responsible for delivering high‑quality instruction in two primary modules:
Design and Modeling and Automation and Robotics. This person may also teach other PLTW courses. PD will be provided, and the candidate must agree to a combination of in‑person and virtual sessions during the summer prior to starting work. The ideal candidate doesn’t just teach from a book; they facilitate a "maker" environment where students are encouraged to fail fast, iterate often, and think like engineers.

Essential

Responsibilities
  • Curriculum Delivery & Instruction
  • Design and Modeling (DM):
Lead students through the Design Process to solve problems. Teach manual sketching techniques, measurement, and 3D computer‑aided design (CAD) using software like TinkerCAD or OnShape.
  • Automation and Robotics (AR):
Guide students in the history and impact of automation. Facilitate the mechanical assembly of VEX Robotics systems and the programming of those systems to complete complex tasks.
  • Magic of Electrons involving hands‑on circuit building or other PLTW course
  • Project‑Based Learning (PBL):
Shift the classroom focus from "lecture" to "lab," acting as a facilitator while students engage in collaborative, real‑world engineering challenges.
  • Lab & Resource Management
  • Manage a classroom lab equipped with 3D printers, robotics kits (VEX), and various hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers etc. needed to assemble devices.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of consumables and durable goods.
  • Ensure all safety protocols are strictly followed, particularly regarding tool usage and electrical components.
  • Professional Growth & Collaboration
  • Complete the required PLTW Core Training for the Gateway modules you will be teaching.
  • Collaborate with the high school engineering department to ensure a vertical alignment of skills.
  • Participate in school‑wide STEM initiatives.
Required Qualifications
  • Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Engineering, Technology, or a related field.
  • Certification:
Valid MA State Teaching License. DLCS 5-12
  • PLTW Certification:
Successful completion of PLTW Core Training for Design and Modeling and Automation and Robotics (or a commitment to complete training over the summer).
Preferred Skills
  • Proficiency in 3D Modeling software (CAD).
  • Experience with block‑based or text‑based coding (e.g., VEXcode or Python).
  • A "growth mindset" regarding technology—willingness to learn new software and hardware alongside students.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to move around a classroom or lab to assist students with mechanical assemblies.
