Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Process Mechanical Water and Wastewater Engineer Lead for employment in our Water Business Line based out of our suburban Boston, MA located in Chelmsford, MA. This is a project-based engineering position to assist and support Wastewater/Water Treatment Plant Design, Design-Build and Program Management Projects. The Position will work with Project Managers and other technical disciplines on all project phases including Facility Planning, Design, Procurement, Construction and Close Out.

Work will include assisting coordination of design projects on municipal Wastewater/Water facilities. Field work will be required and field visits to project sites within the Boston Metro area will be required to provide support as design liaison on ongoing construction projects.

Responsibilities (Include, but are not limited to)

Responsible for engineering, design, and rehabilitation activities related to process mechanical equipment, vessels and tanks and piping systems including equipment and piping specifications and procurement. May be involved with the support of installation and operation & maintenance of equipment.

  • Builds analytic and design skills.
  • Conducts engineering design under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Evaluation and selection of process equipment, pumping systems, pipe materials, and valves under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Technical report writing.
  • Construction services support (e.g., shop drawing review).
  • Creates designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Collects and analyzes data under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.
  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.
  • Identifies discrepancies in results.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, chemical or mechanical engineering + 6 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in design and layout of mechanical process piping, valves, equipment, etc.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD and REVIT.
  • Experience in the water/wastewater industry.
  • Ability to work with a diverse team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and technical, yet experienced enough to see the big picture.
  • Experienced, self-directed professional.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to meet quality, schedule and budget expectations.
  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible and able to adapt to rapidly changing project requirements and deadlines.
  • Ability to apply passion and enthusiasm for design in a collaborative and progressive team-oriented work environment.
