Manufacturing Engineer II (Cable & Harness)
Location:
Chelmsford, MA
Job Type: Direct Hire
Salary: $90,000 - $110,000 per year
About the RoleWe are seeking a proactive and creative Manufacturing Engineer II to join our Engineering team. In this role, you will be the technical lead for the processes used to manufacture high-quality cable and harness products. You will drive continuous improvement through process development, root cause analysis, and systematic problem‑solving while serving as the primary technical interface for our internal teams and external customers.
Key Responsibilities- Process Development:
Develop and document operating procedures, work instructions, and visual aids to ensure 100% quality and optimum yields. - Technical Documentation:
Create and maintain routings, Bills of Material (BOMs), drawings, and detailed assembly/inspection instructions. - Tooling & Fixturing:
Design and implement specialized tooling and fixtures to facilitate efficient production. - Design for Manufacturing (DFM):
Provide critical DFM support at all stages of the product design cycle to optimize manufacturability. - Change Management:
Incorporate customer change notices (ECNs/ECOs) into manufacturing documentation and ensure configuration management of all cables. - Technical Liaison:
Act as the primary technical advisor between Program Managers, customers, and internal departments to resolve technical issues and coordinate schedule changes. - Cost Analysis:
Evaluate estimated vs. actual production costs; correct routing times and BOMs to reflect accurate data.
- Education:
Degree in Engineering or equivalent professional experience. - Experience:
Minimum of 6 years in the electronics and/or electro‑mechanical field (Contract Manufacturing experience is a major plus). - Technical
Skills:
Complete understanding of engineering drawings, parts lists, technical specifications, and engineering change notices. - Software:
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and experience with ERP/MRP systems. - Communication:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high attention to detail. - Industry Standards:
Familiarity with IPC‑WHMA‑A‑620 or similar industry standards is highly preferred.
