Manufacturing Documentation Engineer

CoWorx Staffing Services is seeking a Manufacturing Documentation Engineer in the Chelmsford, MA area. We are seeking a detail-oriented Manufacturing Documentation Engineer to support manufacturing operations through the creation, maintenance, and control of Bills of Materials (BOMs), Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and manufacturing documentation.

This role is responsible for ensuring that product structures, documentation packages, and manufacturing records are accurate, complete, and aligned with engineering, procurement, quality, and production requirements. The position supports SMT/PCBA, cable and harness assemblies, box build, and electro-mechanical manufacturing environments and plays a critical role in product configuration management and new product introductions. Candidates with experience in electronics, medical device, aerospace, defense, or contract manufacturing environments are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create, maintain, and validate single-level and multi-level Bills of Materials (BOMs) within ERP/MRP systems.
  • Translate engineering drawings, schematics, CAD models, and design documentation into structured manufacturing BOMs.
  • Define and maintain:
    Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), including part numbers, revision levels, quantities, units of measure, Approved Manufacturer Lists (AMLs), and component attributes and specifications.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing documentation packages, including assembly drawings, work instructions, routers, process flows, manufacturing documentation, and test references.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with manufacturing routing requirements and production processes.
  • Process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).
  • Update BOMs and manufacturing documentation to reflect approved engineering revisions.
  • Perform impact analysis related to:
    Maintain inventory integrity by monitoring inventory levels, work-in-process (WIP), open purchase orders, and production builds.
  • Maintain revision history, effectivity control, and product configuration records.
  • Release manufacturing documentation through ERP and PLM workflow systems.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, Quality, and Production teams to resolve documentation discrepancies and ensure data accuracy.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) activities and product transfers into manufacturing.
  • Maintain serialized and lot-controlled Bill of Materials (BOM) structures when required.
  • Ensure all documentation meets customer, quality, regulatory, and manufacturing requirements.

Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience will be considered. 3–7+ years of experience in:
Manufacturing engineering experience preferred. Experience with product documentation and configuration management. Knowledge of Bill of Materials (BOM) administration and maintenance. Experience processing Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs). Hands-on experience creating and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs). Experience working with ERP/MRP systems. Strong understanding of manufacturing documentation and engineering change processes. Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Experience supporting:
Experience with PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) and SMT (Surface Mount Technology) manufacturing preferred. Knowledge of cable and harness assembly processes. Experience with electro-mechanical assembly and manufacturing. Familiarity with box build manufacturing and final product integration. Experience in:
Experience in electronics manufacturing preferred. Experience in medical device manufacturing preferred. Experience in aerospace or defense manufacturing preferred. Experience in contract manufacturing (EMS) environments preferred. Knowledge of configuration management practices, including CMII or similar methodologies.
