Position Summary
The Manufacturing Maintenance Technician II is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving manufacturing and utility equipment to maximize operational uptime and reliability in GMP manufacturing environment. This role partners closely with Manufacturing Operations to provide responsive technical support, reduce downtime, and support continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.
The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and experienced in preventive maintenance, equipment troubleshooting, and industrial systems. This individual will also be required to obtain a Massachusetts Wastewater Grade 2 License within the first year of employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all work in compliance with Thermo Fisher Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) standards, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and compliance.
- Execute preventive maintenance (PM), corrective maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs with limited supervision.
- Diagnose and resolve medium-complexity equipment and process issues to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
- Maintain and repair manufacturing and utility equipment including:
- Pumps
- Agitators
- Pressure vessels
- Mechanical seals
- Valves
- Electric motors
- Hydraulic systems
- Repair or replace instrumentation and control devices such as:
- Switches
- Pressure gauges
- Temperature probes
- Proximity sensors
- Push-buttons
- Control valves
- Support manufacturing operations by responding to equipment issues and providing effective technical solutions.
- Assist with coordinating work performed by external contractors and service providers.
- Utilize Practical Process Improvement (PPI) methodologies to support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and update preventive maintenance procedures, standard work instructions, and training documentation.
- Identify and implement small-scale reliability and process improvement projects.
- Accurately document maintenance activities, work orders, and inventory usage in the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
- Communicate low inventory levels and equipment concerns proactively to supervisors and support teams.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associate degree or vocational/technical certification preferred
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of maintenance experience in a manufacturing, production, or process environment is required.
- Minimum 2-3 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing, production, or process environment is preferred.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, inspections, and equipment adjustments.
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
- Ability to read and interpret equipment specifications, technical manuals, and process diagrams
- Familiarity with utility and process systems including:
- Wastewater systems
- CDA (Clean Dry Air)
- Nitrogen (N2)
- RODI systems
- Experience with process control systems;
Emerson DeltaV experience preferred - Working knowledge of CMMS platforms
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Physical & Working Conditions
- Ability to climb ladders and work at elevated heights
- Ability to regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced production and manufacturing environment
- Ability to work a rotating 12-hour shift schedule, including every other weekend
