Position Summary Under the supervision of the Director of Inspectional Services and Operations, responsible for the administrative and technical work in connection with interpretation, processing and enforcement of building code and zoning ordinances. Successful candidate will coordinate operations with the Health Department, Police Department, Fire Department, Planning and Development Department, and other members of the Inspectional Services Department ("ISD") on matters relating to compliance with applicable laws and codes.
Represent the Director of Inspectional Services in meetings, investigations, and concerning zoning code inquiries, and writing zoning decision letters for the Director. Conduct inspections of new and existing construction for conformance with applicable laws. Examine and may approve plans and specifications for new building and for repairs and alterations of existing buildings. Perform all duties required to inspect and permit construction work.
Issue permits for installation, alteration, repair and construction. Investigate complaints of violations and record findings. Record keeping and other related duties may be assigned.
Education
- Associates Degree in related field such as building construction or design, or a combination of education and experience approved by the Board of Building Regulations and Standards.
Experience, Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Nationally certified Local Building Inspector license-holder required.
- Candidate must maintain this certification through continuing education.
- Proficiency in computer software such as Microsoft office Suite, including Word and Excel, and online permitting systems.
