Description
A prominent mid-sized contemporary art gallery with multiple Chelsea, NY locations, is seeking a full-time Gallery & Press Associate. The gallery is a fast-paced environment requiring someone with a proactive and assertive demeanor and experience in managing, delegating, and collaborating.
This role is both administrative and strategic, supporting all external communications related to exhibitions, artists, institutional placements, publications, and gallery initiatives, while also operating as a core member of the gallery team.
This is also a client-facing role, and applicants should be comfortable and confident engaging with the public.
Description:
* Draft and distribute press releases, media alerts, and preview invitations for multiple concurrent exhibitions
* Maintain and expand press and writer lists; proactively pitch exhibitions and artist milestones
* Track, log, and archive all press coverage; generate press PDFs and update website pages accordingly
* Maintain and thoroughly proof artist CVs, monitoring external exhibitions, acquisitions, and publications for updates
* Organize high-resolution images, captions, and exhibition materials for press distribution
* Manage press previews, RSVP lists, and coordinate walkthroughs with artists and directors
* Maintain calendars, including scheduling meetings, travel, and events
* Liaise between artists, directors, gallery associates and the full gallery team
* Prioritize, troubleshoot, and forecast across multiple timelines
* Execute a high level of detail, including proofreading and writing
* Discreetly manage confidential information
* Assist with general gallery maintenance and upkeep to ensure the space remains orderly and exhibition-ready at all times
Schedule:
* The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
* Additional hours expected for opening receptions, events, art fairs, and related travel
Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree required
* At least one to two years’ experience in an art gallery, museum, auction house, or other arts-related organization preferred
* Exceptional writing and verbal communication skills
* Impeccable memory and attention to the minutiae
* Ability to multi-task and manage multiple exhibition timelines simultaneously
* Capacity to think critically and creatively
* Professional, energetic, outgoing, personable
* Proficiency in Adobe Suites, knowledge of Dropbox/WeTransfer, and Art Logic experience preferred
