Title – Teacher – Reading Specialist (WSTA) (SY26-27)

Responsibilities
  • Effective planning and assessment of curriculum and instruction.
  • Meet and instruct assigned students as designated.
  • Plan a program of study that meets individual needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Provide instruction support to struggling students in classroom and pull‑out settings.
  • Plan and provide daily focused, research‑based interventions using approved instructional materials.
  • Deliver instruction that makes learning goals clear, using appropriate techniques.
  • Use innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including technology.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students’ maturity and interests.
  • Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement and behavior.
  • Implement the district’s mission, philosophy of education, and instructional standards.
  • Assess and document student accomplishments, providing progress reports as required.
  • Document learning problems and seek assistance from district specialists as needed.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by law and district policy.
  • Assist administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Develop reasonable classroom behavior rules and procedures, maintaining order fairly.
  • Be available to students and parents outside instructional day under reasonable terms.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence related to the assignment.
  • Attend staff meetings as required.
  • Build cooperative and open lines of communication with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Promote equity and appreciation of diversity, ensuring equitable opportunities for learning.
  • Create a safe and welcoming learning environment for all students.
  • Support students with disabilities in a general education setting.
  • Support and differentiate learning for second‑language learners.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by the Principal and/or designee.
Qualifications Required
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education teacher licensure for the grade and subject area.
  • Sheltered English Immersion endorsement for core content teachers.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Knowledge of MA curriculum frameworks, instruction, and assessment.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction and response to intervention.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Qualifications Preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish.
  • Dual certification in ESL and/or moderate disabilities.
Terms

The length of the school day is 6.5 hours, subject to longer hours for schools with an extended day. The number of school days is 184. See CPS website for salary information.
