Title

Teacher - Writing (WSTA) (SY26-27)

Responsibilities
  • Plan and assess the curriculum and instruction.
  • Meet and instruct assigned students in the designated locations and times.
  • Develop a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Provide instructional support to struggling students in classroom and pull‑out settings.
  • Plan and deliver daily, research‑based interventions using approved instructional materials.
  • Implement clear learning goals and appropriate instructional and questioning techniques.
  • Use innovative instructional strategies and technologies to increase student learning and confidence.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and suited to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement and behavior.
  • Implement the district’s mission, philosophy of education, instructional standards, and objectives.
  • Assess and document student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports as required.
  • Document learning challenges and seek assistance from district specialists as needed.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and regulations.
  • Assist administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Maintain classroom order through fair and just rules of behavior and procedure.
  • Be available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside instructional hours under reasonable terms.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence relative to the assignment and student grade and subject area.
  • Attend staff meetings as required.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues and parents.
  • Maintain open communication regarding the academic and behavioral progress of assigned students.
  • Promote equity and appreciation of diversity, ensuring equitable opportunities for all students, including those with special needs, 504 plans, and second‑language learners.
  • Support students with disabilities in a general education setting.
  • Differentiate learning for second‑language learners.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as determined by the Principal and/or Designee.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education teacher licensure appropriate for the assignment.
  • Sheltered English Immersion endorsement for core content teachers.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Knowledge of MA curriculum frameworks, curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction and response to intervention.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Qualifications Preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish.
  • Dual certification in ESL and/or moderate disabilities.
Terms

The length of the school day is 6.5 hours, subject to longer hours for schools with an extended day. The number of school days is 184. Salary information is available on the CPS website.
