- Plan and assess curriculum and instruction effectively.
- Meet and instruct assigned students in the locations and at the time designated.
- Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Deliver instruction, making learning goals clear to the students, using appropriate instructional and questioning techniques.
- Use innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement and behavior.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum standards and establish clear objectives that reflect these standards for all lessons, units, and projects.
- Implement the district's mission, philosophy of education and instructional standards and objectives.
- Assess and document the accomplishments of students regularly and provide progress reports as required.
- Document learning problems of students and seek assistance of district specialists as needed.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
- Assist administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, maintaining order fairly and justly.
- Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested under reasonable terms.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence, especially as relates to the specific assignment and student grade and subject area appropriateness.
- Attend staff meetings as required.
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with others.
- Maintain open lines of communication with students, colleagues, and parents concerning both academic and behavioral progress of assigned students.
- Promote equity and appreciation of diversity, ensuring equitable opportunities for student learning, including implementing specific strategies for students with special needs, 504 plans, and second language learners.
- Provide equal educational opportunity to all individuals regardless of race, color, gender, age, marital status, homelessness, religion, national origin, or disability.
- Support students with disabilities in a general education setting.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- A Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Massachusetts Dept. of Elementary & Secondary Education teacher licensure in the grade and subject area appropriate for the assignment.
