GENERAL DUTIES:

The Library Literacy and Reading Enrichment Teacher is responsible for fostering a culture of reading that inspires students to become lifelong readers, thinkers, and learners. This educator works collaboratively with classroom teachers, librarians, literacy specialists, and families to increase students' reading volume, improve reading proficiency, strengthen comprehension skills, and cultivate a genuine love of books and literacy.

The teacher creates engaging, student-centered literacy experiences within the library setting that promote choice, curiosity, discussion, and joyful reading experiences while ensuring that students receive explicit instruction in reading strategies and habits that support academic success.

The teacher will:

• Establish a welcoming and inclusive library environment where reading is celebrated.
• Develop routines that encourage independent reading and sustained reading practices.
• Model enthusiasm for reading through daily book talks and read-aloud experiences.
• Encourage students to see themselves reflected in books through culturally responsive text selections.
• Help students discover books aligned with their interests, identities, experiences, and reading levels.
• Promote reading as both an academic skill and a meaningful lifelong habit.
• Celebrate student reading accomplishments through reading challenges, displays, recognition programs, and literacy events.
• Organize author studies, virtual author visits, and literacy celebrations.
• Facilitate book clubs and literature circles.

The teacher will provide explicit instruction in the following areas:

Qualifications :

• Passionate about supporting students
• Current CPS Teacher or Administrator

Compensation : $37 per hour for up to 32 hours
